Whiter Than Snow

We attended both church services at our first Sunday in Noorvik.
The evening service was packed.
I was amazed, and prayed,
"Lord, why did you bring us here?"

This seems to be such a lively church, and some of our churches in Germany are almost empty." The Lord’s answer came during the service. Among other testimonies given that evening, one was given by Alfred Wells, an Iñupiaq man in his fifties ended his with "Please pray for me. I can read English magazines, but I do not understand the English Bible." Right then I knew we were at the right place.

After the death of her mother, a ten-year-old girl is called to missions among the Eskimos. Despite many obstacles, Hildegard is determined to follow God’s leading, and in 1972, she and her husband Wolf reach north-western Alaska where they work with the Iñupiaq people to translate the New Testament into their language. In the Arctic they raise their two children and come to love the people they are serving, while battling extreme cold, raging blizzards, extended power outages, serious illness, depression and anxiety, as well as dark forces in the spiritual realm. Many of the Iñupiaq, upon hearing God’s Word in their "heart" language, come to faith, and in God’s sight, "whiter than snow."

God is far more ready than we are to deal seriously with childlike faith.
We do well to present missions to young Christians not only as something to pray for, but as a career choice in the years ahead.
